SSL Certificates now required

Jan 12, 2022 | Google, SSL

Google has recommended SSL Certificates be implemented on ALL websites.

SSL Certificates – What are they, and do I need one?

An SSL Certificate is made up of small data files that are installed on a web server. They ensure that ALL information passed from a website to a web server is fully encrypted. Websites with an SSL Certificate implemented activates the padlock and the https:// protocol, as opposed to http:// protocol, found on non-SSL enabled websites.

Historically, SSL Certificates were only required on websites where sensitive information was being entered on websites (eg Credit card numbers, passwords etc.).

However, in recent times, Google has recommended that SSL is implemented on ALL websites, irrespective of whether sensitive information is collected on websites or not.  Over the course of 2017, all web browsers have highlighted insecure/non-SSL websites.

Additionally, some Anti-Virus software will block automatic access to non-SSL websites with a warning.

However, Google announced that websites with SSL enabled would have increased Google Search rankings. We have conducted research into this and can confirm that SSL enabled websites do indeed have higher rankings.

As well as providing additional security via encryption of all data sent via the website, having an SSL Certificate improves conversion rates and enhances customer trust.

In simple terms, this is a no-brainer.

At C Me Online, we implement SSL Certificates on ALL new client websites and are recommending that ALL of our clients without SSL currently implemented, prioritise this.

We will install and manage your SSL Security Certificate for you.

It’s inexpensive but can make a big difference.
